February 15 Crucial Antiwar Rally - New York City

see http://www.internationalanswer.org/ or http://www.unitedforpeace.org for details. [Report from the Streets Day of Rally]

Go, Take Five Others With You! If you cannot get to New York City or another organized demonstration, have your own! Make signs, get a few friends, and picket your local Federal Building on Saturday at noon. We CAN stop this proposed War on Iraq - but enough people have to GET OUT THERE! Here's one suggestion for a sign: How Did Our Oil Get Buried in Their Sand?

ANNOUNCEMENTS (articles follow)

  • Internship(s) to help organize the May 2003 Biodevastation Conference in St. Louis, Missouri. Speakers/activists from all over the world on why genetically modified organisms are dangerous for all Earth's life forms. What you can do, latest information, demonstration at Monsanto's world headquarters, etc. Meet other activists and learn how to organize a multi-day, international conference with some really good and competent people. Contact Don Fitz at fitzdon@aol.com.

  • Internships available at small, diverse, organic farms on MaineŒs North Coast (near ocean beaches, Acadia Natl Park, woods and waters, etc.). Learn greenhouse culture, build raised beds, do whatever needs doing to keep these small farms˜our food security˜productive. Free food and housing for intern(s), money scarce, but perhaps tiny stipend available. Contact Nancy Oden, cleanearth@acadia.net or 207-434-6228.

  • Synthesis/Regeneration: the Magazine of Green Political Thought and Green Politics, GPUSA's newspaper, are looking for articles, poems, cartoons. For details, email fitzdon@aol.com for S/R, and mitchelcohen@mindspring.com for Green Politics. Both excellent publications are FREE with your GPUSA membership.

Again, GPUSA's Webslave, Devin, has put the texts of this edition's articles up on our website. Hard to choose among such a plethora on the Internet, but these seemed most relevant for now. There are seven articles here.

ARTICLE 1. A powerful collection of antiwar poems. These should be forwarded as widely as possible. Impossible not to be moved. Go to http://www.greenparty.org/Feb2003/poetry.html

ARTICLE 2. This is what happens when you hate what the “leaders” are doing, but still support their rotten economic system. Here's a right-winger who's very angry at "his" leaders for lying to us about Iraq and Powell's faked data, which he exposes here.

Interesting piece. Note he poses no alternatives to what is; he still supports this system. Such frustration it must be, not to have a vision for a better world. See his piece at http://www.greenparty.org/Feb2003/alerts.html

ARTICLE 3. Here's a bit of satire, which is difficult these days when everything the government does appears to be satire. See at http://www.greenparty.org/Feb2003/ND.html

ARTICLE 4. Forwarded by the LA Greens. Are you wondering what is this “Patriot Act II?” Here's much VERY IMPORTANT information and what you can do, to which I would add ˆ building the citizens antiwar, environmental, and social justice movements as large as we can is the best way to make military/corporate rule untenable.

This is a very important article. We don't necessarily agree with every statement in it, but it's crucial you know whereof you speak when you talk about this awful, anti-American proposal. See it at http://www.greenparty.org/Feb2003/patriot.html

ARTICLE 5. Some thoughts on the Columbia spacecraft explosion and nuclear materials. This aspect of the space shuttle is very important for us to know, since our and other Earth life forms' survival could be at extreme risk. See it at http://www.greenparty.org/Feb2003/Columbia.html

ARTICLE 6. Here is a lengthy but extremely useful piece from Paul Donahue of Maine with excellent facts on oil and the USA. Also some great graphics. This is the same Paul Donahue who was arrested and jailed at a Calif. Airport a few weeks ago for putting a note in his suitcase objecting to its being searched out of his presence, and also for having the gall to put a boot in his suitcase that x-rayed like a “bomb,” according to the searchers. Paul and his wife Teresa (also jailed for three days) are good friends of mine, which I find amusing. The two most notorious “airport incidents” so far were mine at the Bangor, Maine Airport in November 2001(that story is at http://www.greenparty.org/bangor_account.html) about a week after the original Patriot Act was passed, and now Paul and Teresa's in California. And here we are, all just quiet, peaceful people from Maine. Here's his piece, good reading. http://www.greenparty.org/Feb2003/oil.html

ARTICLE 7. And the last one - a brief piece exposing and ridiculing Bush's logic. Quite funny and telling. Please see http://www.greenparty.org/Feb2003/neighbor.html

We'll end this Green News with words from Gandhi.

Seven Deadly Sins:

Politics without Principle.
Wealth without work.
Commerce without morality.
Pleasure without Conscience.
Education without Character.
Science without Humanity.
Worship without Sacrifice.

--Mohandas K. Gandhi (1869-1948)

That's it for now, People. Thanks for reading Green News. See you OUT THERE on February 15. Stay cool, be brave.
